STAR
STAR Qualified HVACR Service Department
Maximizes Potential
ROCKVILLE, MD – The Mechanical Service
Contractors of America announced today that W.E. Bowers, Inc., a full
service mechanical construction, service and plumbing company located in
Beltsville, MD, has been awarded the association’s Shooting Star Award.
The award is given to MSCA STAR contractors who have successfully used the
standards-based qualification to promote business success. MSCA STAR
contractors have completed a rigorous qualification program in order to be
designated as MSCA STAR Qualified.
“W.E. Bowers is an exemplary member of our industry,” said MSCA Board of
Managers Chairman Jeff McCoy. “The Shooting STAR Award recognizes the
company’s excellent efforts toward demonstrating that every employee understands
MSCA STAR criteria and works to utilize the company’s STAR designation in every
aspect of business operation.”
McCoy went on to explain how W.E. Bowers exemplifies all
the best qualities of an MSCA STAR and how they have put their STAR
qualification into every facet of their service operation. He commended the
company on putting MSCA STAR to work for them in the most visible and positive
way. W.E. Bowers has been an MSCA member since 1996. The
company received the MSCA STAR qualification in 2004, the first year the program
was available. The company was also the first in the nation to earn MSCA
GreenSTAR status, receiving the distinction last July, for successfully
demonstrating commitment to environmental stewardship throughout the entire
organization.
W.E. Bowers has been a member of the USGBC since 2007 and they are
currently involved in several LEED EB projects in the Washington metropolitan
area including the LEED Platinum
Station Place and
1050 K Street , both in Washington, DC.
MSCA STAR is a rigorous qualification program recognizing contractors
who meet or exceed operating and training standards set by MSCA. The
designation assures building owners and managers that contractors have passed an
extensive, independently-verified screening of core competencies, including a
skilled workforce and outstanding customer service. (For additional
information on MSCA STAR go to
http://www.mscastar.org/ or contact MSCA at (301)
869-5800.)
To become a GreenSTAR, an MSCA STAR contractor must meet the following
criteria: employ at least one LEED Accredited Professional; be a member of the
U.S.G.B.C.; verify that at least 25 percent of employees have participated in
green training; demonstrate the promotion of environmental responsibility by
offering specific sustainable services and recommending green procedures and
equipment; establish an internal commitment to green by attaining LEED
certification, of any type, for their building, or by developing an internal
“green policy”; and have participated as part of a project team with a LEED EB
or LEED NC registered project within the three years previous to
application. MSCA STAR and GreenSTAR applications are reviewed and
approved by a third-party independent company.
